Having watched most of the first debate between the Republican candidates for the Republican nomination for President, I observed the following:
First, according to the Republicans Biden economics policies have failed. How do we know that? All we have to simply do is to look at our wallets and see the effects of inflation. And all we need to know that Biden is the President. If we are spending more, and we certainly are, than we did for the same amount of goods than before Biden became President, then the inflation must Biden's fault and his fault only.
Second, I often heard two Republicans speaking at the same time when only one was asked a question. I guess it is a good thing that I was born with 2 ears because it was the only way that I could clearly hear each Republican speak when two were talking at the same time. And hearing two Republicans speak at the same time was a common occurrence during this debate. Had I been born with one ear, then I would have only heard half of the conversation.
Third, the Republican candidates who participated in the debate seem ready to move on after Trump. Why? They said it was because of the alleged his alleged crimes. It is neither proper nor Constitutional to elect a President who could be convicted and sentenced to jail. That is what they said. And they certainly wouldn't say that because Trump is rival candidate.
And so let's take a look at those observations. The first observation shows what Republicans want America to think about the economy. That during Biden's Presidency, the only thing that affects the economy, good or bad, are the President's policies. And so the pandemic and its after effects, especially those affecting the supply and demand of goods had no effect on our economy. This is especially true about the price of gasoline. That even though the demand for gas increased dramatically, our refineries took a considerable time to catch up to increase supply. And so the price of gas is only affected by Biden's policies.
We should also note how the war in Ukraine has affected the supply and demand of certain goods like fuel and grain. The increased demand for fuel from sources, especially the US, other than Russia and the cuts in the supply of grain for the rest of the world again are natural factors that affect prices and thus can serve as a cause for inflation.
We should also note that our economic is fueled by the commitment to maximize profits. This was easily shown after the lockdown ended when big oil recorded the highest profits ever. And fossil fuels was a main driving factor for our inflation.
A fellow activist was telling me that as she has been talking with people with white collar jobs from a variety of companies. And those people are observing at work is very similar to what Karl Marx saw the bourgeoisie of his day do. That is to objectify and commodify employees to squeeze as much profit out of them as possible.
The self-control exhibited by the Republicans in their first Presidential debate does not bode well for how any of them would conduct themselves if elected. And if Trump taught us anything about what we need from a President, he taught us, by providing a negative example, that we need a mature adult who can control themselves in both small and large matters.
Finally we should note the status of Trump in this Presidential race. Each of the candidates on the stage affirmed what Pence did as Vice President in counting the votes and told the audience that it is time to move on. That there is political life for the Republicans after Trump.
The audience reacted negatively to their appeals the first few times that the Republican candidates mentioned Trump. But the negative reaction tended to die down as more candidates said that it was time to move on.
What do Republicans want besides a Republican President? They want an impervious economic system so that regardless of what happens in the world, their spending and way of life is not negatively affected. And so far, the polls indicate that they want a return to Donald Trump. Why is that? Who knows except that they are more than eager to believe the conspiracy theories about Joe Biden.
But here we should note that the strength of each major political party is the same; they are not the other party. And because we the voters have been reluctant to vote outside the 2-party system, we end up with 2 candidates for each office whose most appealing feature is that they do not belong to their opponent's political party.
