This Month's Scripture Verse:

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

How Shall We Respond To Someone Else's Sin?

There are some religious personalities that irk me a lot. One of those is Carl Trueman (click here for a bio). Though we share the same general theology, and are members of the same denomination, and have a connection to the same school I am often at odds with his public comments on issues. His comments most often come way of The Mortification Of Spin (click here) and First Things (click here).

What bothers me most is his triage of issues. For when he is talking about our relationships with our fellow people, his focus is on the sex. This is particularly true at the First Things website. Other than that, he mostly talks about doctrines about God and the Confessions. At the First Things site, his focus on sexual practices can sometimes appear as if he is scapegoating the Sexual Revolution and the LGBT Movement for most, if not all, of society's problems. And it isn't that he should not talk about doctrines about God as he does at the
Mortification Of Spin website, but there he is less scripturally focused than he is focused on the Confessions.

In addition, what bothers me is that he is gifted and very intelligent and today's world needs his insights on other subjects. But those insights there are few and far between from what I gather from the sites listed above.

His insights on the recent synagogue shooting in California is an example of why we need him to comment more about other areas of life. For no review of his Christianity Today article (click here for the article) could accomplish anything other than to distract people from what he wrote.

One of the things that prompted his writing about the shooting is that the shooter belongs to our denomination. And his response to that showed a kind partial taking of responsibility which is long overdue for the conservative Christian Church in America as well as Americans in general.

With that being said, the only other comment that would do his article justice is this: PLEASE READ HIS ARTICLE NOW (again, click here for his article). Nothing that I could say about it could add to what he wrote.

And Carl, if if by some unusual act of providence you are reading this blogpost of mine, thank you very much for the article.
